Better Than Barbie: Raising Teens with Positive Body Image



Does your teenage daughter complain about the way she looks? Social media, magazines, and popular culture have had a major impact on the way adolescents and young adults feel about their bodies. By age 6, girls often start to express concerns about their weight or shape, and this is a concern that often remains with them throughout life. Additionally, body dissatisfaction is a risk factor in the development of future eating disorders. NYU Child psychologist Dr. Dana Galler discusses strategies that parents can implement to boost confidence and a positive body image among teens.
